Freya’sDay, Sun in Capricorn, Moon in Sagittarius (Someday I’ll figure out those nifty special characters!)
In the past month or two I’ve read Crowley, Magic Without Pain & Magic in Theory & Practice; I’m not a hermetic type, but I understand a bit more about how they do things. (I’ve also read John Michael Greer — I try not to do the unbalanced thing.) I’ve also read a bit on the kabalah, but it never seems to stick. I’ve read Chaos Magic & The Hoodoo Voodoo Spellbook, both of which I won on Twitter from Weiser (I love those guys!); again, parts were fascinating and brain stirring, and others were off-putting — just not for me. But I learn bits & pieces from everything. Right now I’m back in Norseland (Book of Troth & Runelore), where I’m finding the same problem: the material on history & the gods rings all sorts of bells, but when they get to ‘how we Asatru do things’ I start wrinkling my nose and finding objections. Is it the years of witchcraft? Am I just too eclectic for my own good? I had the thought today that maybe my religion and my magic should be separate; but can one really do that? I’d rather have my gods involved, at least peripherally. So much to suss out …
Tonight’s ‘affirmation:’ “I’m open to what you want me to know.” (Directed at the Universe & the Gods)
The Simple World-Saving Device
Thorsday, 22 December; Sun in Capricorn, Moon in Sagittarius
I made a vow today to be Open to the Universe, and to spending the next year to finding out what it wants me to do. I’ve started with three things; a devotional when I go to sleep, keeping track of my progress, and a devotional when I wake up. I’ve been drifting for a very long time, with grandiose plans that never made it out of my head — and I want to stop that. The Norse god/desses are who call to my heart, but I’ve been trying to force something that’s not happening, so I’m leaving myself open to learning about and hearing from all of them. And I’m trying to integrate all I’ve learned (from different religion/occult sources, like ceremonial and chaos magic and hoodoo and different divination systems) into a way of working that makes sense. My goal is to know who I am, what I’m for, and where the Universe wants me by next Winter Solstice. And this is the first part of keeping track. Think good thoughts in my direction; and Yule blessings to you!
RT @Aylinn: According to USNO, Solstice is actually Dec 22 @ 0530. So today is the LAST day of fall & thus Yule Eve. Blessed Yule to all…
